Volkswagen has introduced a new electric minivan, the ID Buzz. The ID Buzz is a throwback to the VW Microbus, inspired by the nostalgic looks of the past yet powered by the next generation electric wizardry.
Volkswagen just introduced the long-awaited successor to its iconic 1960s Microbus, and we’re excited.
The 2024 Kombi will be released under the brand’s ID electric sub-brand and will stand out with its huge VW logo, upright profile, iconic two-tone colour scheme, sliding door, and short wheel overhangs. Its spacious cabin will feature flexible seating and three rows of seats. VW have tried to keep the “ID Buzz” as organic as possible for the eco warriors with an interior full of sustainable materials like non-animal leather and organic paint.
The standout standard features include a 10-inch digital gauge cluster, but the top options include customisable ambient lighting and a set of massaging front seats. The ID.Buzz is also offered with a diverse selection of standard and optional driver-assistance technology, Including a memory function for the self-park assist that is said to work on pre-saved routes.
But What About The Power?
The all-electric powertrain will come in both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations, with the77-kWh battery pack delivering a range that’s expected to be around 418 kilometres. The base model will feature a single, rear-mounted electric motor that makes 201 horsepower and 310 N∙m of torque. A dual-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration with around 295 horsepower–similar to the current ID.4–will also eventually join the lineup.
VW suggests you’ll be able to reach 80% of the van’s battery charge in a mere 30 minutes at a DC charger, The company is also planning to introduce a plug-and-charge technology. This will let customers use the charger hassle-free, even without using an app or a card.
With all that technology bundled up, the hippies might need some deeper pockets as the price is expected to be around $62,000-$95,000.
