2022 Volkswagen Golf GTE Plug-in Hybrid

VW have supercharged their Mk8 electric golf this year.

The stylish and efficient Volkswagen Golf GTE gets its second generation, with updated plug-in hybrid technology and a six-speed DSG automatic gearbox. After success in 2018, fans had to wait a few years for a replacement to arrive. Introducing, the ‘Mk8’ GTE. It boasts all the improvements made to the standard Golf, along with a noteworthy increased electric range that will tickle the fancy of the plug-in Golf fan club.

The GTE stands out from the rest with LED matrix headlights as standard, honeycomb style fog lights in the front bumper, plus a slick styled 17-inch alloy wheel. Inside, the electric golf is trimmed with a cool theme where you get blue tartan seats and blue details, provoking a minimalist and classy feel in the cabin. You also get an 8-inch infotainment system and a 10-inch digital driver’s display are both standard, with the option to upgrade to a pair of 10-inch screens instead.

The drivetrain delivers quite a punch. The GTE comes with a 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 148bhp and 250nm ft of torque. That’s connected to a six-speed DSG gearbox and a 109bhp electric motor with a 13kWh battery. When both work in synergy, we’re talking an output of 242bhp and 400nm ft of torque. Considering the small frame weighs in at a hefty 1600kg the Mk8 GTE manages a 0-100km in 6.7 seconds.

The new VW GTE, when available will set you back $67800 Australian dollars.
