The German luxury brand we all love is releasing details on its upcoming premium SUV the Porsche Macan EV and this new generation is coming with an electric powertrain that will smoke rivals in its class.
Porche is no stranger to the world of EV’s with the incredible Porsche Taycan receiving a glowing reception on its release in 2020. Now they want to carry on the legacy of electricity to their best-selling model the Macan.
The new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, which will serve as the foundation for a wide range of vehicles, will be used for its construction. This platform, which made its debut on the Audi A6 e-tron concept, offers significant improvements in performance and range.
What About The Numbers?
We expect it to launch with a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive option upon launch with the petrol-powered, ICE-engined Porsche Macan to be sold alongside its EV sibling.
There will be two electric motors, with an 800-volt battery pack capable of storing 100kWh of electrical energy.
One on each axle, providing the grippy all-wheel drive with an astonishing 450kW and more than 1000Nm of torque.
The motors in the Macan EV are brand-new. The magnets in the laminated steel rotor are of the same permanent magnet synchronous type as those in the Taycan, but they are aligned differently. Porsche claims that this increases the power density compared to the Taycan’s technology.
There are no official confirmed 0-100 times for this rocket but if the Taycan can hit the benchmark in 2.8 seconds we can expect the Porche Macan EV to be close behind.
Although the A6 e-tron we previously mentioned has a claimed range of more than 700km with the same sized battery and electric setup, its actual driving range is still unknown.
More than 700km of range outperforms the majority of petrol vehicles and all-electric vehicles currently offered for sale in Australia.
The most recent 800V charging technology will be installed in it, and high-performance chargers will be able to accept more than 270kW of energy. By dividing its 800-volt hardware into two 400-volt units, it can increase charging rates for slower chargers.
