BMW have more than doubled its electric car sales in the first quarter 2022
BMW have all but sold out their first shipment of new electric cars. The models dubbed the iX, iX3, and i4 have been selling out across Australia. The total electric car sales, across BMW and MINI, amounted to 35,289, which is an impressive 149% more than a year ago. It is clear consumers are working up a thirst for new electric BMWs with the battery powered beasts totalling 5.9% of total sales volume.
BMW Australia says it is negotiating to get additional supply, but continuing production shortages and global semiconductor issues mean stock will be limited for at least another year.
Initially there will be three model grades of BMW iX in Australia, starting with the BMW iX xDrive40 SUV from $135,900, the faster and more agile BMW iX xDrive40 Sport from $141,900, and the more premium SUV BMW iX xDrive50 Sport from $169,900 plus on-road costs.
The M performance division also has a seat at the table with its gran coupe I4 M50. Producing 400kw and a 0-100 time of just 3.9 seconds, it won’t be long before we see this powerhouse zipping around Australian streets as well.
