2025 Audi A5: The Electrified Successor to the A4

Audi has taken the covers off its much-anticipated 2025 A5, a major evolution in the German carmaker’s lineup. With this all-new model, it is replacing both the A4 sedan and wagon, positioning itself as a sportier and more upmarket offering.

The 2025 A5 ushers in a slate of electrified powertrains and next-generation tech, cementing the German brand’s ambitions for innovation and sustainability in the premium mid-size segment.

The 2025 Audi A5 Design Language

The latest A5 will come with two body variants: the Sportback, which is a graceful four-door coupe, and the Avant, which is a stylish wagon with a more rakish design for the shooting brake type of vehicle.

This shift in the lineup reflects Audi’s strategy to create more distinctive and appealing designs for increasingly diversified customers’ tastes.

The 2025 A5, with larger dimensions over the previous generation to give more interior space and comfort, is based on Audi’s new Premium Platform Combustion.

The length of the Sportback is 4830mm, and the width is 1860mm; it now rides on an extended wheelbase of 2900mm. This greater footprint not only increases the vehicle’s presence on the road but also provides more space and luxury in the cabin.

Inspired by the A6 e-tron concept car, this design features smooth lines, flared wheel arches, and a commanding stance.

The model also features an Audi typical single-frame 3D honeycomb pattern at the front, which is flanked by thin LED headlights. It also features second-generation OLED taillights from Audi at its rear, which integrate advanced car-to-x communication.

What’s powering this new B10 generation Audi A5

For the new 2025 A5, there will be a full portfolio of electrified powertrains to cover the broad requirements of performance and efficiency. On the low end, there is a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol that comes in two varying outputs: 110kW and 150kW.

Those in love with diesel will like Audi’s plan to offer a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel that has an output of 150kW and 400Nm of torque, available with front-wheel drive or the quite excellent Quattro all-wheel-drive system.

One of the main highlights of the new A5 has to be Audi’s advanced MHEV Plus mild-hybrid system. It deploys two electric motors – an integrated starter generator and a powertrain generator – to recover up to 25kW of power during braking and provide an additional boost of 18kW and 230Nm when called upon. This doesn’t just aid fuel efficiency, but also driveability – especially low-rev work.

For the highest level of efficiency, Audi offers a plug-in hybrid model that can do more than 100km of pure electric driving.

On the opposite end, the S5 model gets busy with a burly 3.0-litre turbo-petrol V6 that extracts up to 270kW – all compliments of its variable turbine geometry and the MHEV Plus system.

Audi brings screens and more screens

Inside the cabin, the 2025 A5 gets the latest E3 electrical architecture by Audi, all centred on a curved panoramic display.

This combines an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. Customers can choose to add an extra dose of luxury and functionality through a further 10.9-inch passenger display and a configurable head-up display.

According to Audi, it is the driving dynamics of the new A5 that have been emphasized the most in terms of development. There is an extensive refinement of the chassis across the board, with improvements in steering precision and more neutral handling characteristics.

The new adaptive dampers give a greater differentiation between comfort and sport modes, allowing the driver to adjust the ride accordingly.

Audi A5 release timeline?

The 2025 Audi A5 will be available in European dealerships from November 2024, with pricing starting at €45,200 (approximately $73,100 AUD). For customers in Australia, the new A5 will hit the local dealerships as early as 2025, but the details on its pricing and configurations remain unclear.

The reconstruction of its design, new technologies, and electrified range of engines make it the perfect tool for the 2025 Audi A5 to make strong contributions to the premium mid-size segment.

It is how Audi envisions mobility in the future: an exciting combination of sportiness, efficiency, and luxury that will charm longtime Audi fans as much as new customers.
