Eblen Collision Repairs Wish To Share This Good News Story

Corys Story

The words right place, right time certainly ring true for job seeker Cori Roberts, who was referred to Maxima by Baptist Care, Inner South office.

Baptist Care work tirelessly to help South Australians achieve their full potential. They are committed to working with the State’s most disadvantaged, championing local issues and connecting with people to enable positive change.

Cori presented to Baptist Care Inner Southern Youth Homelessness in early April 2017 when he was faced with homelessness after being evicted from his private rental property.

They assisted Cori with short term accommodation providing him a safe and secure place to address his many complex support needs.

Cori showed determination and focus on his goal to obtain employment. Through advocacy and case management, Baptist Care linked Cori with Maxima and this is when the magic started.

Maxima jumped into action going to our employer network to find the right employment opportunity for Cori. Cori continued to engage with Baptist Care to obtain long term housing and it was due to his commitment and determination that within a month Cori moved into a Private Rental property where his tenancy is stable.

Cori had an interest in cars, so Maxima approached Eblen Collision Repairs at Somerton Park seeking work. Managing Director, Dario Tonon had no hesitation in employing Cori for one day a week as a car cleaner. Dario stated “I had nothing to lose; my car detailer worked four days a week, the wage subsidies covered the cost of employing Cori eight hours on a Monday”.

Dario was impressed with Cori’s work ethic, “he would follow instruction and had the right attitude to learn, so when one of our Panel Beaters left, we offered Cori full-time work assisting our tradespeople in the workshop. As long as Cori is willing to learn new skills, I am happy to teach him, he is valued by all staff in the workshop”.

Production Manager, Chris Dossetter-Smith, said “Cori is always willing to clean up the workshop without being asked. In his new role Cori is working full-time, he appreciates the opportunity to work on disassembling bumper bars and other components prior to spray painting and then re-attaching them to the vehicle”.

Chris said “Cori was a bit shy at first, but has quickly become part of the team”.

When asked about the job Cori said “I have always wanted to work on cars, I love my job here at Eblens. I want to do well here to reach my goal of buying my own house”.

Cori’s continuing employment is due to the support from Jodine, Maxima’s Employment Consultant, who drove Cori to work when his car was off the road, organised work shoes and assisted him to manage his finances. Jodine continues to support and mentor Cori to ensure he is successful in sustaining his employment well into the future. Way to go, Cori!! Well done!!
